Massive Russian Airstrikes: Targets, Tactics, and Ukraine’s Response

Russia launched a massive air attack on Ukraine, focusing on western regions and striking both military and civilian infrastructure. Ukraine is responding by targeting Russian refineries. The article examines Russian tactics, the impact on Ukraine’s power grid and public morale, and the influence of Western support.

Today, Russian forces carried out another massive airstrike on Ukraine’s western regions, including Lviv and the surrounding area. The attacks resulted in at least five deaths, disrupted electricity supply, and damaged civilian infrastructure. Strikes also hit Zaporizhzhia, causing additional casualties.

The main Russian objective is not only military but also psychological: targeting hotels, factories, and energy sites to demoralize the population and urge capitulation. However, Ukrainians are resisting, fundraising for defense, and providing the army with interceptor drones to protect against Shahed drones.

Ukraine’s response has included strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, particularly refineries, affecting the enemy’s economy. Recently, almost half of Russia’s refineries have been damaged or destroyed by such attacks.

Russia’s tactics have evolved—beyond targeting power generation plants, they now focus on key substations, which complicates restoration efforts, especially in regions like Chernihiv. Ukraine continues to defend itself and restore critical infrastructure.

Russia is also combining airstrikes with psychological operations and drone incursions into European countries, posing additional threats. This could backfire, prompting stronger European support for Ukraine.

The role of the US is crucial—potential supplies of long-range weapons may enhance Ukraine’s response to Russian aggression. Ukrainian society remains motivated, supporting their defenders and volunteer initiatives.

The article also features acknowledgements to Ukrainian volunteers and donors who are equipping the front with modern technology.
