Expert on Trump’s Statements and Prospects for Russia-Ukraine Negotiations

Yevhen analyzes Trump's ultimatum to Putin, Kremlin’s reaction, and prospects for Ukraine-Russia peace talks.

During an interview, expert Yevhen shared his perspective on Donald Trump’s statement regarding an ultimatum for Putin and assessed the prospects for the negotiation process between Ukraine and Russia.

According to Yevhen, Trump’s statement is more of a political maneuver than a reflection of real change. He doesn’t expect immediate concrete actions, citing August as vacation season in the West—meaning only extraordinary events may trigger new steps. Yevhen does not foresee peace talks resuming soon.

With regard to the Kremlin’s reaction, Yevhen points out Medvedev’s posts, interpreting them as an effort to lower the negotiation level and create an illusion of activity. Medvedev is still perceived as an influential figure in the West.

The expert also highlighted US General Donahue’s comments about the ability to seize Kaliningrad rapidly, framed in the context of the upcoming "Zapad 2025" Russian-Belarusian military exercises. This, he said, signals increased psychological pressure from the US and its allies.

Speaking of Turkey’s mediation, Yevhen believes Erdogan acts out of pragmatic interests and seeks to strengthen his influence. However, Russia remains unwilling to see Ukraine as an equal partner in direct dialogue. A broad international conference appears more realistic as it allows Russia to maneuver diplomatically while retaining its self-image.

In summary, Yevhen concludes that no breakthrough in the negotiation process is expected soon. Trump’s statements currently impact the information landscape more than actual political decisions.
