On August 4, the Veza Public Analytics Center hosted a discussion with director Valeriy Klachuk and Ihor Chalenko, head of the Center for Analysis and Strategies and member of the National League of Centrists.
The discussion centered on possible US-led peace initiatives, particularly the visits of special envoys Whitkoff to Moscow and Kellogg to Ukraine. The experts suggested these may reflect the Trump administration's attempts to foster a compromise to the war, but current realities and Russia’s position make progress unlikely. The role of China, Trump’s potential participation in Beijing events, and the responses of major global powers were also discussed.
A separate focus was the recent high-profile corruption scandal in Ukraine regarding drone procurement. Several heads of military and civil administrations were reportedly detained over kickback schemes, with top officials promptly dismissed. The need for effective anti-corruption investigations and transparent proceedings was emphasized, given the serious impact such abuses have on public trust and military support.
The experts also examined the operation of Ukraine’s NABU, the independence of anti-corruption institutions, and the president’s role in handling corruption scandals. They stressed the importance of public scrutiny and continued investigation to overcome systemic corruption.
