Putin-Trump Plan: Alaska Meeting and Proposed Territorial Exchange. What Is Known and Ukraine’s Response

Details have emerged about a possible Putin-Trump meeting, where a territorial exchange between Ukraine and Russia is to be discussed. Ukraine rejects concessions.

Details have surfaced about a planned meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, which may take place on August 15 in Alaska. This information was confirmed by Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform. The meeting is expected to focus on a proposed territorial exchange between Ukraine and Russia, initiated by Putin.

Trump stated that the discussion centers on territories that have been the site of intense fighting over the past three years. The plan involves the return of some land and a mutual exchange, but the process is complex and faces opposition from Ukraine, as the country’s constitution does not allow for the ceding of territory.

The Russian side claims that if Ukraine withdraws from Donbas and Luhansk, military action could cease. Russia also demands legal guarantees of non-aggression, but European nations are skeptical of such assurances.

A Ukrainian referendum is also being discussed, but authorities emphasize that relinquishing territory is unconstitutional.

Before the Putin-Trump summit, US, Ukrainian, and EU officials will meet in the UK to coordinate positions. Some fear that Ukraine’s interests may not be taken into account in the final agreement.

According to sources, Putin would be ready to end the war if Ukraine recognizes the loss of Donetsk, Luhansk, and Crimea. However, Ukraine insists it will not recognize the occupation or give up its land.

President Zelensky has stated that decisions about territory must comply with the constitution, and any attempt to endorse territorial concessions would require a referendum. He also stressed that agreements excluding Ukraine are void.

It was also mentioned that the US, through Trump’s mediation, has helped achieve an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In response, Russia intensified attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.

Putin’s statements have also included attempts to influence Ukrainian elections and install a pro-Russian government. Ukrainians are being urged to express their views regarding the peace deal and the possibility of a referendum.
