Escalation Analysis: Drone Strikes on Russia and Political Prospects of the Putin-Trump Meeting

Ukraine intensifies drone attacks on Russian oil and military sites amid ongoing discussions on peace scenarios and political outcomes.

As Vladimir Putin prepares to meet with Donald Trump, Russian forces launched airstrikes on Zaporizhzhia, deliberately targeting a civilian bus station in broad daylight with a guided bomb. Simultaneously, Ukraine has intensified drone attacks on strategic military, oil, and logistics sites within Russia. Notable strikes have hit the Arzamas instrument-making plant, facilities in Saratov, Tatarstan, the Komi Republic, and the Afipsky oil refinery.

These repeated aerial attacks have left Russian cities and infrastructure on alert for over a week, causing numerous flight cancellations and delays, particularly in regions such as Sochi.

Alongside the active conflict, political maneuvering continues. Donald Trump has reiterated proposals for a peaceful resolution based on territorial exchanges, including recognizing Crimea as part of Russia. President Zelensky rejected these proposals, emphasizing that Ukraine's territorial integrity is enshrined in its Constitution.

The US political establishment, following Trump’s remarks, has become more cautious, now discussing the possibility of freezing the conflict along the current front line. The Russian side still insists on Ukrainian troop withdrawal and the official adoption of the Russian language, positions that find no support in Kyiv.

Ukrainian military units have expressed appreciation for the supply of drones used for defensive purposes. Ongoing fundraising initiatives for FPV drones and interceptors are yielding tangible frontline results and contributing to operational safety.

The current situation underlines that, despite peace discussions, Russia continues attacks on civilian objects, while Ukraine enhances its defense capabilities with international support.
