Trump Proposes Three-Way Summit with Putin and Zelensky on Ending the War

Donald Trump has expressed readiness to initiate a trilateral meeting with Putin and Zelensky to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.

Donald Trump has announced his readiness to organize a three-way meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky aimed at resolving the war in Ukraine.

Ahead of his meeting with Putin in Alaska, Trump emphasized that only a format involving all three leaders might lead to a final resolution of the conflict. Meanwhile, officials in Moscow highlight that no concrete agreements should be expected from a US-Russia presidential meeting at this stage.

Trump stressed that issues of ending the war should be resolved in a broader format, possibly with the involvement of European leaders. However, it remains unclear whether Putin will agree to a trilateral meeting and under what conditions.

The White House notes that the Trump administration will focus primarily on diplomatic avenues for a settlement, but Trump himself warned that more sanctions against Russia are possible if Putin refuses to negotiate.

Observers point out that Trump's emphasis on economic incentives may not be convincing for the Russian president, recalling previous attempts at dialogue with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

The US-Russia summit in Alaska does not guarantee concrete outcomes, while a proposed trilateral summit could become pivotal in efforts to resolve the war in Ukraine.
