Zelensky-Trump Meeting: Consequences and Ukraine's Position

Overview of Zelensky and Trump's Washington meeting, Russia's response, and Ukraine's stance on territorial concessions.

Today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky traveled to Washington to meet with Donald Trump after Trump's talks with Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Prior to this meeting, Russia intensified its attacks on Ukrainian cities: strikes hit Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, Sumy, and Kharkiv, resulting in at least five deaths, including a child.

The meeting is under close scrutiny due to Western proposals deemed unacceptable by Ukraine, particularly concerning territorial exchanges. Kyiv's official stance remains unchanged: Ukraine will not cede any territory, as this would contradict the Constitution and threaten statehood.

U.S. representatives, including Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff, claim that Ukraine is not being asked to give up territory, while Russia has allegedly agreed to certain security guarantees. European leaders are also involved in the discussions, but the U.S. insists on Zelensky and Trump meeting first.

Debate continues over the effectiveness of international security guarantees, such as the Budapest Memorandum, which previously failed. Meanwhile, Russia faces a growing fuel crisis caused by Ukrainian strikes on refineries.

Ukrainian military units are calling for continued public support and donations for FPV drones, which bolster defense capabilities. They express gratitude for help received, emphasizing that Ukrainian society ultimately determines the course and outcome of negotiations and the war.
