On August 20, the Center for Public Analytics "Vezha" held a discussion covering current international and domestic political issues in Ukraine. Host Valerii Klochok and expert-political scientist Ihor Reiterovych focused on the possibility of a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as Donald Trump's role in arranging a potential trilateral meeting.
The experts stressed that such a meeting is unlikely before September, as talks are currently disadvantageous for Russia. Special attention was given to the position of China and to what extent Xi Jinping's support may influence further actions by the Kremlin. Recent warming in China-India relations was also noted as a factor Moscow may consider in its tactics.
The program covered Western actions, highlighting willingness to enter into negotiations with Russia to reveal Moscow's lack of sincerity in ending the war. At the same time, European diplomats are preparing the next package of sanctions, while support for Ukraine continues in line with political realities.
Against the backdrop of international activity, Ukraine is seeing growing political tension, largely due to recent rumors about the creation of a "secret headquarters" for General Zaluzhny in the UK. The discussion included the real possibility of Valerii Zaluzhny's participation in elections and the reactions from society and political circles regarding the alleged composition of his potential campaign team.
In summary, analysts predict that Ukraine's key political questions in the coming months will continue to depend on external players—especially the US, China, and Russia—alongside domestic developments around possible elections and the regrouping of political elites.
