US may provide Ukraine with 3,350 missiles with a range of up to 450 km – overview of consequences

European partners paid for the supply of 3,350 US-made missiles, enabling Ukraine to strike targets inside Russia.

The Ustrі Journal has reported that the Biden administration has approved the delivery of 3,350 ERAM missiles to Ukraine, with a range of up to 450 km. This shipment, valued at approximately $850 million, has been funded by European partners.

If confirmed, this would offer the Ukrainian Armed Forces enhanced capabilities to strike strategic Russian targets both in the occupied territories and within the Russian Federation itself. However, Ukraine would need explicit authorization for such operations.

Western media indicates that recently the Pentagon has restricted Ukraine's use of long-range American missiles for strikes on Russian territory, revising the approval process after Donald Trump’s election. Each use now requires Pentagon approval, often resulting in vetoes to avoid disrupting potential negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

The expected delivery in the coming weeks reflects recognition in Washington of the importance of military pressure on Russia to resolve the conflict. The lack of authorization for strikes within Russia is seen by President Putin as a sign of Western weakness, enhancing Russia’s negotiation position.

The ability to hit key Russian military, oil, and infrastructure sites may not only reduce Russia’s military power, but could also affect its economy and complicate air and cargo transport, evidenced by recent drone attacks that forced Russian airports to close.

Experts believe such actions could deepen political and social crises in Russian regions if transport disruptions persist and central government control weakens. Ongoing U.S. support and political determination are seen as vital for Ukraine's continued defense against Russian aggression.
