On August 28, the Center for Public Analytics "Vezha" held a discussion on Ukraine's new ambassador appointment to the US, China's participation in security guarantees, and the ongoing diplomatic mission of Ukrainian representatives.
Valeriy Klochok and political scientist Ihor Reiterovych discussed the nuances behind the appointment of Olga Stefanishyna as Ukraine's Ambassador to the US. They noted that the appointment was approved by Washington despite previous criminal proceedings, referencing the presumption of innocence and political realities in the US.
The conversation also analyzed the diplomatic tour of Defense Minister Umerov and President's Office Head Yermak, who visited Qatar, the UAE, Switzerland, and then the US seeking platforms for future dialogue and defining upcoming peace initiatives.
The potential role of China in resolving the conflict and providing security guarantees for Ukraine was discussed. The experts deem a formal alliance between China, Russia, and North Korea unlikely, but point to China's intention to retain regional influence and potential involvement in multilateral negotiations alongside the US and EU.
Other issues raised included legal cases against the newly appointed ambassador, the effectiveness of Ukraine's diplomatic corps, shortcomings in cooperation with the Ukrainian diaspora in the US, and possible scenarios and locations for peace talks about ending the war in Ukraine.
