US President Donald Trump has once again threatened to impose sanctions on the Russian Federation. Writing on his social network, Trump stated he is ready to implement serious sanctions against Russia only if all NATO countries take similar steps and cease buying Russian oil. He highlighted a lack of unity within the Alliance regarding support for Ukraine and energy purchases from Russia, which weakens NATO’s negotiating position in the conflict.
Trump also commented that the war in Ukraine is “Biden's and Zelensky’s war,” but experts and commentators argue that by making such statements, Trump is effectively allowing Russia to continue its aggression against Ukraine. Notably, after Trump’s contacts with Vladimir Putin, new Russian attacks on Ukraine have often followed.
The issue of security guarantees for Ukraine after hostilities end is being actively discussed. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski expressed skepticism about current guarantees, instead prioritizing real military assistance to Ukraine. Oleksiy Zhovkva, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, holds a different opinion about the effectiveness of the guarantees currently under discussion.
At the same time, Russia has shown aggression toward NATO countries—UAVs from Russia have repeatedly violated the airspace of Poland and Romania. This raises concerns about the security not only of Ukraine but also Europe as a whole.
