Support for Elections in Ukraine Grows: One-Third of Ukrainians Want Early Voting

Analysis of new polling data shows rising support for early elections in Ukraine, including expert commentary and political implications.

Recent sociological research published by KIIS and discussed by experts has shown a notable increase in support for holding elections in Ukraine before the full end of the war. The percentage of citizens supporting elections after a ceasefire and with security guarantees grew from 9% in March to 22% in September 2023.

Another 11% support immediate elections regardless of the situation at the front. In total, one-third of respondents want quick elections, marking an important factor in Ukraine's political process. Experts note that such sentiments could influence the President’s Office plans and future governmental strategy.

Discussions also focus on whether martial law will remain after the ceasefire and how this may affect the ability to hold elections. Political analysts emphasize that, for both the international community and internal legitimacy, rapid presidential elections may be advantageous for the government, especially given the challenging situation with parliamentary ratings and emerging political forces.

Meanwhile, experts stress that the actual conditions for elections will depend on security, positions of international partners, and dynamic public opinion, which could shift quickly. Unofficial parliamentary party ratings and potential presidential candidates have also been discussed.
