US, Europe, and Ukraine's Stances on the War: Ostap Drozdov's Analysis

Ostap Drozdov analyzes recent visits to the US, the interests of America, Europe, and Ukraine in the war, and the prospects for peace.

Renowned journalist and blogger Ostap Drozdov, in an interview with Radio UA Chicago, shared his analysis of the current political dynamics of the war, especially after high-level visits to the United States and the failure of peace efforts. Drozdov stresses that the US remains the only real force capable of influencing Eurasian affairs. After unsuccessful peace initiatives, the war has become a "constant"—a new reality to which global players must adapt and from which they seek to benefit.

Drozdov points out that the US benefits in any scenario: a successful peace initiative could mean international recognition, but if the war continues, America increases its revenue from arms sales, mainly financed by Europe for Ukraine. Military aid is often treated as investment in land and resource agreements with Ukraine, including access to lithium deposits. Europe has a vested interest in prolonging the conflict, as war in Ukraine serves as a buffer to direct security threats to the EU.

For Ukraine’s leadership, the war means an era of nearly unlimited centralization of power. War conditions enable the postponement of elections, curtail democratic procedures, and further strengthen executive authority. Drozdov notes that it is for Ukrainian citizens themselves to consider what benefits or interests such a situation brings them, as international and state actors openly form their own agendas. During war, civil liberties are severely restricted, and competition and personnel shifts are limited.

In his concluding remarks, Drozdov emphasizes that society needs to openly recognize the likelihood of a prolonged conflict and that election plans or major political changes are unrealistic until active hostilities end.
