Breakthrough in Peace Talks: Turkey Sees New Diplomatic Opportunities as Missile Strikes Continue

Turkish FM Hakan Fidan announces a possible breakthrough in Ukraine war talks, amid ongoing Russian missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has announced the possibility of a breakthrough in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. According to Fidan, Turkey remains in close contact with all parties, including Russia, the EU, and Ukraine, aiming to be a key mediator in the ongoing talks.

Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to endure Russian missile strikes. Recent attacks have hit Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, and Kirovohrad regions. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that about 500 missiles and hundreds of drones targeted Ukrainian territory. Five people were killed and ten were injured in these attacks.

Zelensky stressed that if Russia agrees to a unilateral ceasefire in the air, it could mark a step towards diplomacy. Ukraine awaits increased air defense support from its partners.

Fidan forecasts a possible diplomatic breakthrough within several months. The main obstacle remains disagreement over the Donbas region: Ukraine refuses to cede it, while Russia insists on its control.

At the same time, Ukraine is reportedly preparing for possible elections, though no official announcements have been made. Political processes are also underway in neighboring countries, with ongoing protests in Georgia and coalition negotiations in the Czech Republic.

Turkey is determined to strengthen its role as a leading mediator in efforts to achieve peace between Ukraine and Russia.
