Yesterday, Russian forces launched a massive air attack against Ukraine, striking energy infrastructure targets. As a result, several regions experienced power outages. In response, Ukrainian security and defense forces carried out combined strikes on energy and industrial facilities in Russia and the occupied territories, including Belgorod and Nizhny Novgorod regions as well as Crimea.
In Belgorod, several energy facilities were damaged, leading to widespread disruptions in electricity supply. Similar problems occurred in occupied parts of Ukraine—specifically in Crimea, where a major fire broke out at a fuel depot in Feodosia, which was not operational at the time. The peninsula is now experiencing a fuel shortage: over half of local gas stations are closed, and fuel delivery is hampered by logistical issues.
Ukrainian strikes on Russian thermal power plants and fuel depots are seen as retaliation for ongoing Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector. However, experts note that destabilizing fuel infrastructure may have a broader impact on Russia’s population than attacks on border region power plants. Ukraine stresses the need for partner support to boost air defense and expand operations in Russian rear areas.
Apart from military operations, volunteers and charitable donors continue to support the Ukrainian army with FPV drones and air defense equipment, playing a crucial role in countering enemy attacks.
The energy situation remains tense on both sides of the frontline. Experts believe large-scale attacks could significantly affect Russia’s domestic situation by fueling public dissatisfaction.
