Results of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit: Impact on the War in Ukraine and Russia’s Reaction

A review of the peace summit outcomes, Russia’s absence, US policy, Ukraine’s front-line successes, and the importance of defense support.

The Peace Summit in Sharm El Sheikh took place yesterday, focusing on ending the war in the Gaza Strip. The event was significant for the US, Israel, and other attendees, but Russia was not invited. At the same time, Russian forces shelled the energy infrastructure in Kharkiv and struck a hospital, while Belgorod faced power supply issues.

The summit saw broad international participation, including Indonesia, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. Russia’s absence—despite its traditional efforts to influence Middle Eastern affairs—was notable and painful for its representatives.

US President Donald Trump was one of the key participants and signed a ceasefire agreement for Gaza. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of peace initiatives and expressed intentions to focus next on the war in Ukraine, potentially increasing support for the country after the Middle East conflict cools.

The Ukrainian delegation is preparing for meetings in Washington to discuss further military assistance, including air defense and the possibility of acquiring Tomahawk missiles.

On the Ukrainian front, the situation remains difficult, particularly in the Novopavlivka sector, but there have been successes in Zaporizhzhia, where Ukrainian forces have liberated several localities. Volunteers and the community continue to support the military with donations of drones and other critical equipment.

The Russian economy is experiencing difficulties due to sanctions and the cost of war. Even propagandists acknowledge that strikes on infrastructure have not resulted in major advances on the front. Meanwhile, Kremlin circles are not abandoning escalation plans and continue to threaten Ukraine and Europe.

Ukraine remains committed to fighting for its independence, counting on international support as well as its own resources, and calls for continued donations to defense needs.
