Zelensky-Trump Meeting: Peace Talks, Tomahawks, and Political Changes in Ukraine

Analysis of the upcoming meeting between Zelensky and Trump, peace initiatives, and the impact of political conflicts on Ukraine's cities.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is scheduled to meet former U.S. President Donald Trump this Friday, according to American journalist Chris Miller who works in Ukraine. The agenda is expected to include discussions about peace negotiations and the possible supply of Tomahawk missiles. While Zelensky’s visit to the United States has been officially confirmed, details of the negotiations remain confidential.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is also experiencing internal political reshuffling. Several local officials have been dismissed in cities such as Odessa and Kyiv. A major recent topic is the situation around Odessa’s mayor, Gennadiy Trukhanov, who is alleged to possess a Russian passport. Authorities are reportedly preparing to establish a military-civilian administration in the city. Trukhanov denies personally receiving a Russian passport but does not explicitly rule out its existence.

Analysts note that these changes in city leadership are happening ahead of possible early elections, significantly affecting local self-government and communication between authorities and citizens. Corruption investigations and issues relating to dual citizenship among officials are becoming tools in political competition as the political landscape continues to shift.

Internationally, peace initiatives and negotiations are ongoing with potential mediators such as Turkish President Erdogan. Russia has shifted its public stance to declare readiness for talks, provided its interests are met. Kyiv continues to defend Ukrainian interests, while various partner countries have differing views on how the conflict should end.

Simultaneously, local power restructurings continue. Kyiv has seen the dismissal of several officials, and similar processes are underway in Odessa and Mykolaiv. These developments are occurring amid expectations of upcoming elections and the need to prepare city centers for the winter, particularly regarding energy stability.

For the Ukrainian authorities, the priority remains maintaining stability, control over major cities, and promoting Ukrainian interests during negotiations with international partners in the context of ongoing external and internal challenges.
