Prospects for Talks: Possible Trump-Xi Meeting and Its Impact on Ukraine

Analysis of the expected Trump-Xi meeting, China's role in the war, and positions of the US, Russia, and Ukraine regarding a possible end to the war.

At the end of this month, a meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping may take place, considered a significant event for global politics. During the expert discussion, the possible impact of this meeting on US-China relations was explored, given the difficult negotiations on trade and the war in Ukraine.

Experts note that for Trump, this meeting is primarily an instrument to influence Russia, aiming to use his contact with China to increase Western pressure on the Kremlin. However, Xi Jinping may be reluctant to participate in this pressure, keeping the outcome uncertain.

The discussion also covered Trump's travel itinerary, including his role in negotiations in Southeast Asia and Japan, as well as the possibility of a meeting with Kim Jong Un and talks on security and regional settlement.

Trump's involvement in global diplomacy could launch a new geopolitical dynamic, especially concerning US influence over Russia, China, Japan, and Korea. For Ukraine, the central issue remains the possibility of peace.

It is emphasized that any direct peace agreement must be signed by the warring parties themselves, not only by outside players. Security guarantees are mostly symbolic, and the prospect of peace depends largely on the political will of those involved.

President Zelensky confirmed Ukraine's intention not to give up any territory and its readiness for negotiations, noting that the reality has changed and society finds it difficult to accept possible compromises. Ukraine continues to receive military aid, including Patriot defense systems, but critical security questions remain unresolved.

Summits and joint communications do not always guarantee the end of war. Western mediators play an important role in supporting Ukraine, but any final settlement depends on the warring sides. In today's world, lasting peace may require new formats and frameworks for agreements and guarantees.
