Potential Opening of a New Front: Regional Threats, China's Role, and Western Strategies

Experts discuss the likelihood of Putin opening a second front, China's geopolitical ambitions, Europe's readiness, and technological war changes.

President Zelensky stressed that without a clear peace plan, Russia may attempt to open a new front. Such an escalation could target the Baltic states or Poland and would be a serious and dangerous development.

Experts note that Donald Trump, whose priority is to avoid a major European war, acknowledges China's active military preparations. Currently, China is not ready for a European military campaign but has not ruled this out. Meanwhile, Europe is bolstering its military and arms production, but remains vulnerable to modern threats.

Another focal point is Arctic competition among the US, Russia, and China for access to resources and strategic control. China is strengthening its position in the region by investing in Russian Arctic ports and infrastructure, impacting the balance of power.

The use of new military technologies, particularly drones, is also a major challenge. Ukrainian innovations in aerial and naval drones have proven highly effective, inflicting damage on the Russian navy and infrastructure.

Western leaders are beginning to realize that limited or delayed support enables Russia to adapt, while European militaries must adjust to the new reality of mass drone deployment.

The main threat is that Russian aggression goes beyond a local conflict and threatens the security of all Europe and the world, with Russia-China cooperation potentially making matters more complex.
