The United States has introduced new sanctions against the Russian Federation, prompting significant reactions among Russian officials and propagandists. The move came unexpectedly from Donald Trump, who was previously known for his cautious stance towards Russia.
Vladimir Putin publicly responded to the sanctions, aiming to project confidence and arguing there would be no serious consequences for Russia’s energy sector. However, experts point out that the Russian economy is already weakening, and the newly imposed US sanctions may intensify this trend.
Russian propagandists responded with hysteria. For example, Solovyov stated that France and Britain should be attacked in response, though such statements are generally seen as exaggerations. Propagandists also blamed Russia’s central bank for economic troubles, ignoring the war in Ukraine as a core reason.
The Ukrainian side sees the sanctions as a significant US policy shift regarding Russia, but emphasizes that military and financial support remains critical to resisting aggression. Special mention is made of the importance of supporting the front, including ongoing public fundraising for drones and equipment.
Analysts note that despite the new sanctions, Russia will continue its actions against Ukraine, with Western support remaining decisive for conflict dynamics. Meanwhile, the Kremlin is likely to seek renewed communication channels with the US administration.
