On October 27, in Russia’s Belgorod region, Ukrainian drones damaged a strategically important dam. Following the attack, water levels dropped by one meter, resulting in flooding of nearby areas; however, no evacuation has been announced yet.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported that its air defenses destroyed 193 Ukrainian drones overnight, with 34 heading toward Moscow. Ukrainian air defenses neutralized 66 out of 100 Russian drones targeting Ukrainian cities, with nine locations in northern, southern, and eastern regions affected. One person was killed and 12 injured after an FPV drone hit a minibus on the Sumy-Bilopillya route.
On the Kharkiv front, the damage to the dam left Russian forces cut off from their main troops, complicating logistics. Satellite images confirm significant flooding levels.
Following drone attacks, Moscow and the Moscow region saw airport operations interrupted, as well as an oil depot fire and forest blazes near the city. Mobile fire groups patrolled near the Kremlin.
In Lithuania, Vilnius airport was temporarily shut down after a mass launch of balloons suspected for smuggling purposes.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied Kremlin claims of “encirclements” near Kupyansk and Pokrovsk. Ukrainian forces reported the liberation of the village of Yehorivka from Russian sabotage groups.
Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov maintained that Russia did not violate the Budapest Memorandum, as the US and Russia exchanged positions on negotiations. Donald Trump urged Putin to de-escalate and end the war rather than testing new missiles. The US considers more sanctions, and the EU discusses using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine.
Serbia offered to host peace talks. Sweden and Ukraine have agreed on the purchase and production of Gripen jets. A US court ordered an American company to return funds to Ukraine for an unfulfilled arms contract.
