A Ukrainian expert shared insights on Russia’s possible attacks in the coming days. Currently, Ukrainian intelligence is working to forecast future Russian strikes; however, the expert does not have direct access to operational data.
According to him, Russians may focus in the short term on regions such as Chernihiv, Sumy, Poltava, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Zaporizhzhia—areas within up to 150 km of the Russian border. For the closest targets, drones and artillery are used, while for more distant ones, rocket attacks are deployed. Recently, Russia has applied combined tactics: first, mass drone attacks, then targeted missile strikes at objects damaged by drones.
The expert notes that it is practically impossible to fully protect large energy facilities due to their size and complexity. He suggests that this winter, Russia may aim to create disbalance in the Ukrainian power grid by destroying transmission lines and key facilities in the central and eastern regions, possibly causing cascading outages.
Regarding Ukraine’s response, the expert pointed out limitations stemming from technical issues with domestic missile production. Government representatives have announced intentions to expand the geography of Ukrainian strikes, but this progress is slowed by technical difficulties and lack of expertise among developers.
Experts caution that the exact scenario of the winter campaign is hard to predict, but Ukraine should prepare for power challenges and new waves of attacks from both sides.
