On October 29, the Center for Public Analytics "Veza" hosted a discussion on key political developments in Ukraine. The main topics were the suspension of former Odesa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov, who was accused of negligence following a deadly flood in the city.
President Volodymyr Zelensky alleged that Trukhanov held Russian citizenship, but law enforcement handed him a suspicion not for treason, but for negligence related to the death of nine people during the flood.
The discussion focused on the accountability of local leaders, the infrastructural challenges facing many Ukrainian cities, and the long-standing scrutiny of Trukhanov over alleged Russian ties since 2014.
Another key topic was the announcement by NABU and SAP concerning corruption in the procurement of drones for government special communications, with losses amounting to UAH 90 million, raising questions about budget transparency and possible political motivations.
Experts highlighted that such investigations could either demonstrate Ukraine’s commitment to fighting corruption to international partners, or undermine trust in the government during efforts to secure financial aid. The importance of transparent and lawful governance was emphasized.
