Trump and Xi Jinping’s Meeting: Impact on Ukraine War, US Nuclear Tests and Ukraine’s Economic Strategy

Trump and Xi Jinping discussed the war in Ukraine, trade, US nuclear testing, and Ukraine’s 2026 budget plans during a 1-hour-40-minute meeting.

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping held a 1 hour 40 minute meeting described by both leaders as productive. Trump stated that almost all issues, particularly related to trade and US-China relations, were addressed. He called Xi “a great leader of a great country” and expressed hope for long-lasting cooperation.

The meeting dedicated special attention to the Russia–Ukraine war. Trump confirmed the discussion was serious and that both sides agreed to work toward a peaceful resolution. However, no concrete decisions on Ukraine were announced, and Trump emphasized the complexity of the situation.

Trump also announced a reduction in additional tariffs on Chinese goods from 20% to 10%, signaling readiness for economic compromise. Xi announced China’s commitment to maintaining trade relations with the US and avoiding conflicts.

Meanwhile, the US is considering resuming nuclear weapons testing, as Trump believes it is necessary if other countries are doing so. He instructed the Secretary of Defense accordingly, underscoring the strategic importance.

Ukraine plans to increase social spending in 2026 with over 40 billion UAH allocated for social sectors, partly due to higher pension contributions. There remains uncertainty about funding sources, with much of the economy still in the shadows.

The number of criminal cases related to draft evasion and desertion in the Ukrainian Armed Forces is rising, as reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office. September alone saw almost 19,000 such cases, raising concerns.

While the Trump-Xi meeting took place, Ukraine suffered another massive air attack from Russia, resulting in casualties and infrastructure damage across several regions.

Trump also commented on economic cooperation with South Korea, the investment potential, and the issue of a reduced US military presence in Europe—a topic discussed in the US Congress and NATO.

The Trump-Xi meeting sent important signals for global politics, economy, and security. For Ukraine, the priority remains finding ways to achieve peace and stability.
