NABU and SAP have reported major embezzlement during procurement of drones by the State Special Communications Service of Ukraine. Charges have been brought against two agency officials and several private entrepreneurs.
The main issue involves the purchase of 400 drones, Mavic 3 and 4T models, last year at prices 70-90% higher than market value. According to NABU and SAP, the total loss amounted to UAH 90 million. Authorities seized $4 million in foreign accounts and UAH 17 million in Ukraine.
The funds used for the drone purchase came from the state budget, particularly as a result of legislative changes in budget formation.
The situation is complicated by rumors of internal conflicts within the government team, especially concerning Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov. However, drone procurement has since been transferred to the Ministry of Defense for centralized purchasing.
These issues may affect the trust of international partners, as Ukraine awaits large loans and financial support for reconstruction. At the same time, openness in anti-corruption investigations demonstrates the work of relevant agencies.
The criminal case is ongoing. The independence of the anti-corruption system and potential political consequences for top officials remain under discussion.
Experts note that fighting corruption in the defense sector remains a continuous and highly sensitive process for Ukraine.
