Key Political Discussion Points: Global Politics, Energy, and Criminal Cases in Ukraine

Interview with political analyst Yevhen Magda: international policy, the Kudrytskyi case, and Trukhanov’s pro-Russian stance.

On October 30, an interview took place between Valeriy Klychuk, head of the Center for Public Energy, and political scientist, director of the Institute of World Policy, Yevhen Magda. The conversation addressed both Ukraine’s international standing and domestic issues.

The main topic was the recent meeting between the leaders of the United States and China. According to Yevhen Magda, the outcomes were predictable: both sides agreed to continue the dialogue and maintain the moratorium on hostile economic actions. Magda emphasized that under Xi Jinping, China is primarily focused on economic leadership, not militarization. At the same time, China’s military build-up is viewed as a modern political tool rather than an aggressive move.

The discussion also covered the relationships between China, Russia, and the United States, especially regarding the war in Ukraine. The host highlighted China’s public support for the Kremlin, but Magda noted that global politics is rarely black and white—it is filled with nuances, interests, and compromises.

The second part examined the criminal case of former "Ukrenergo" head Volodymyr Kudrytskyi. Key details of the case, including arrest, bail, and public reaction, were discussed, as well as Kudrytskyi’s cooperation with Western partners and his role in disconnecting Ukraine’s power grid from Russia and Belarus in favor of linking up with the EU system.

Special attention was paid to cases involving mayors with pro-Russian views, particularly Hennadiy Trukhanov, and the political expediency behind law enforcement actions, as well as the influence of internal processes and the positions of political forces in parliament.

Finally, rumors about the creation of a new political party led by MP Danylo Hetmantsev were discussed, with comment on the ambiguous prospects. The interview concluded by emphasizing the importance of active civic engagement and open public debate.
