Zelensky on the Battle for Pokrovsk, Russian Missile Threats and International Talks: Key News of the Day

The situation in Pokrovsk is worsening, with updates on Ukrainian and international security, missile threats, diplomatic talks and high-profile events.

On October 31, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported a difficult situation in Pokrovsk, where fierce fighting with Russian troops continues. According to Zelensky, Russia has concentrated around 170,000 military personnel in this area. Despite this, Ukrainian defenders hold their positions, and the city is not surrounded, with the situation under control.

Today, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine announced the destruction of a Russian "Oreshnik" ballistic missile by Ukrainian special services during the night of July 8-9 near Kapustyany Yar, Russia. The SBU clarified that the missile, located in a hangar and nearly ready for launch, was destroyed. Officially, Russia may now have only one such missile, but work continues on building more.

Zelensky emphasized that the deployment of Russian missiles in Belarus poses a threat to Europe, especially Eastern and Baltic countries. The President said Ukraine would provide partners with information about 25 Russian companies involved in missile production.

Additionally, the Ukrainian Navy confirmed they carried out cruise missile strikes with "Neptune" missiles on facilities in Oryol, Russia, that supplied energy to military enterprises in the region. Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials promise enhanced protection for 100 critical infrastructure objects by the end of the year.

In international politics, a closed meeting of a coalition of states supporting Ukraine is set for November 4 in Madrid. The Foreign Ministry says the meeting is not secret but will observe restrictions on the disclosure of details. Thirty-five countries are expected to participate to discuss further support for Kyiv.

Among high-profile domestic news, former Odesa mayor Trukhanov was placed under 24-hour house arrest in a case involving deaths during bad weather, suspected of official negligence that led to the deaths of nine residents.
