During the discussion of the meeting between Donald Trump and Chinese representatives, experts addressed its implications for Ukraine and Taiwan. According to analysts, Trump overestimated his ability to influence negotiations, and no final decisions were reached regarding the war in Ukraine or the Taiwan question.
Ukraine's expectations from this meeting were significant, yet as noted by analysts, Taiwan's future was largely avoided, and the war in Ukraine remained central. Trump, as discussed, was unable to persuade either Russia or Ukraine to negotiate and instead suggested "let them fight."
Experts indicated that currently the Russian elite do not sense critical pressure that could push towards ending the war. Sanctions have not yet become existentially threatening for Russia, and Putin is not ready for concessions, viewing defeat as personally catastrophic.
Taiwan's issue was deliberately left aside, as the parties did not wish to disrupt economic agreements and progress on trade and technology. Taiwan remains a highly sensitive topic for China, with related tensions considered a greater risk for the global economy than the war in Ukraine.
Analysts concluded that China lost its chance to seize Taiwan by force; now, resolution may only be reached via political or diplomatic means.
