On the YouTube channel of Maksym Nesvytailov, a conversation took place with Valerii Klochok, member of the League of Centrists, about the essence, significance, and prospects of centrism in Ukraine and global politics.
The discussion emphasized that centrism is a pragmatic, adaptive ideology capable of reaching broad layers of society and building compromise, while avoiding extremes. Valerii Klochok highlighted that extreme ideologies may reach temporary success but quickly lose public support. In his view, centrism forms the basis for state and societal stability by balancing social policy, strong defense, and economic development.
It was noted that many Ukrainian political forces declare support for centrism, but in practice are often influenced by leadership-focused approaches and populism. Adaptive centrism was described as an attempt to modernize the concept and seek balance amid global challenges and increasing political populism.
The guests discussed examples of centrism in international politics, especially in France and the US, where seeking compromise among different forces is the foundation of political life.
The conversation also tackled myths about centrism and highlighted the importance of public education for its broader acceptance. The demand for ideological purity remains limited, as Ukrainians and voters worldwide typically pay more attention to specific leaders or promises.
Maksym Nesvytailov and Valerii Klochok called for a deeper exploration of centrism, acknowledging its importance for building a stable society and flexible policy in the face of today’s challenges.
