Day Overview: Strikes on Russian Plant, Armed Forces Contracts, Oil Sanctions and Corruption Scandals

Key events: Ukrainian drone attacks in Bashkortostan, Ukrainian Armed Forces contract reforms, Russian oil sanctions, corruption cases.

On November 7, Valeriy Klochok recapped the day’s main news. Ukrainian drones, for the second time in two days, struck a major petrochemical plant in Bashkortostan supplying the Russian military, causing a fire.

A military briefing with the President and Defense Minister focused on the front: Russian troops infiltrated southern Pokrovsk’s urban area, fierce defense continues, and the situation near Vovchansk remains tense. Around Kupiansk, Ukrainian forces advanced over 1 km. Zelensky reported Ukrainian drones eliminated 25,000 Russian troops in October—the highest monthly loss since the full-scale invasion began.

Ukraine announced new service contracts for soldiers, with salaries of 50–60,000 UAH and a one-year deferment post-service. Ukraine also plans to localize production of Swedish Gripen fighter jets by 2033.

The US, studying the war’s lessons, plans to purchase at least a million drones in coming years to ensure supply chain independence.

During Orban’s US visit, Bloomberg reported Hungary’s MOL is seeking alternatives to Russian oil in case of cuts. Zelensky stressed Ukraine will not allow Russia to profit from energy sales to the EU. The European Commission now bans Russian citizens from receiving multi-use Schengen visas; each EU trip now requires a new single-entry visa.

In Ukraine, new corruption scandals arose: a group impersonating the Presidential Office head’s relative was arrested in Kyiv, and a police official who disappeared with confiscated money was found living in a forest tent. The High Anti-Corruption Court raised bail for Odesa mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov in a case over embezzlement and land seizures.

The host also appealed for support for the 66th Brigade of the Armed Forces, who need drones, generators, and parts. Details and reports are provided below the video.
