Massive Shelling in Ukraine, Statements by Trump and Orban: Night’s Main Events and Impact on Energy Sector

Ukraine faced over 450 drone and missile attacks overnight. Energy infrastructure hit, resulting in power outages and water disruptions. Trump, Orban, and US reactions.

On the night of November 8, Ukraine experienced intense aerial attacks: over 450 targets, including drones and missiles, were launched across multiple regions. The main targets were energy infrastructure facilities, causing widespread power and water outages in cities like Dnipro, Kremenchuk, and other localities.

In Dnipro, one death and 11 injuries — including a 13-year-old girl — were officially reported. Kremenchuk was left without electricity; water supply was suspended and emergency generators were used to keep water utility services running. Similar issues were reported in Horishni Plavni in Poltava region and in Kharkiv region. Other regions, including Kyiv, were also hit: debris falls, car fires, and temporary water supply disruptions were noted.

President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that over 450 attack drones and 45 missiles targeted Ukraine overnight, focusing mainly on critical infrastructure. Some Ukrainian drones reportedly struck Russian territory as well, leaving several towns in Volgograd region without power after a substation was damaged.

International reactions remain restrained. After meeting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Donald Trump said the war in Ukraine would soon end, but parties needed to “let off steam” first. Orban called the war a Western mistake. The US temporarily lifted sanctions on Hungary’s use of Russian oil and gas and the construction of the Paks-2 nuclear power plant, with US and Russian partners involved. Hungary agreed to buy $600 million worth of US liquefied natural gas over the year.

The talks included mention of a possible US-Russia summit in Budapest and the Trump administration's decision to end US-funded Hungarian bureau of Radio Free Europe to support Orban. Analysts note reduced operational support for Ukraine from the US and Europe, as new funding decisions have been delayed.
