Massive Russian Attack, New Drone Commander Appointment and Energy Deals: Key Highlights

Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine with missiles and drones targeting energy infrastructure and residential buildings. Most attacks were repelled. Ukraine appointed a new commander for drone air defense and detailed ongoing fundraising for frontline drones. The Orban-Trump meeting on energy deals is also discussed.

Last night, Russia launched another massive combined attack on Ukraine, using hypersonic Kinzhal missiles, ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as Shahed-type and other drones. The main targets were energy infrastructure facilities; in Dnipro, a residential building was also struck, with fatalities reported.

Despite the scale of the assault, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down around 400 enemy drones, some with interceptor drones procured via public fundraising initiatives.

Fundraising efforts continue, with an additional UAH 5 million needed to purchase modern drones for the Pokrovsk, Myrnohrad, Kostiantynivka, and Hulyaipole directions. Some of these drones have already been delivered to the front lines.

In other news, Yurii Cherevashenko has been appointed as Commander of Unmanned Systems for Air Defense. His main goal is to enhance the effectiveness of Ukraine's drone air defense. Volunteers and charity organizations have played an essential role in securing new technology.

Internationally, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and former U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed on further purchases of Russian energy resources and U.S. LNG. Hungary has received an exemption from sanctions on energy imports, raising questions about double standards in the sanction policy toward Russia.

Ukraine also reportedly carried out strikes on Russian energy facilities in response. The need for continued support from volunteers and the public is especially critical in the frontline areas near Pokrovsk.
