New Corruption Scandals, Police Chief’s Disappearance, and Russian Soldier’s Acquittal: Key News of the Day

A Kyiv police chief disappeared with seized funds, a Russian soldier was acquitted, and new corruption cases erupted across Ukraine.

Today, Kyiv police announced the search for Yuriy Ryabynsky, head of the Darnytskyi police department, who disappeared along with confiscated funds totaling approximately $400,000. In addition to the case of Ryabynsky's disappearance, an investigation into abuse of power was also launched. He was found in a forest in Rivne region with part of the stolen money, which he was supposed to transfer to a bank.

At the same time, the High Anti-Corruption Court changed the measure of restraint for Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov in a case of illegal appropriation of budget funds and land, increasing his bail from 30 to 42 million UAH. This case also includes businessman Volodymyr Galenternyk, former prosecutor Oleh Zhuchenko and a total of 16 accused.

Borodyanskyi Court in Kyiv region acquitted Russian serviceman Yevgeny Murzintsev, accused of looting during the occupation of Kyiv region. The court found the evidence insufficient for a conviction.

The Central Region specialized prosecutor’s office announced the uncovering of a fraud scheme in Sumy region: a group of people forged documents and embezzled nearly 16 million UAH allocated for the purchase of drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Another group of fraudsters operated in Kyiv: one detainee impersonated a relative of the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, and tried to arrange jobs in exchange for payment.

Corruption and criminal events remain relevant in Ukraine at all levels, stirring public and expert discussion.
