The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) have charged businessman and Kvartal 95 studio co-owner Andriy Mindych. His offices were searched in connection with a large-scale corruption scheme in the energy sector.
According to SAP, an organized criminal group led by Mindych included both former and current officials within the energy industry. They allegedly used the state company Energoatom to derive personal profit, causing harm to national interests.
This corrupt operation is considered particularly dangerous because it unfolded during wartime, as the Russian Federation targets Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Such actions are viewed not only as top-level corruption but as facilitating enemy plans and undermining the country’s security.
Notably, the group operated out of an office belonging to former Ukrainian MP and current member of Russia’s Federation Council Andriy Derkach, who is linked to Russia’s FSB and propaganda campaigns against Ukrainian authorities.
Commentator Vitaliy Portnykov emphasizes the urgent need for reforms to boost state management efficiency, promote responsibility among officials, and strengthen professionalism amid the ongoing war. Only a professional government can counter both external and internal threats.
The corruption investigation is vital to maintaining Western allies’ trust in Ukraine and minimizing risks that Russia could exploit in its war effort.
