In an interview, public figure and head of the Nova Doroha charity foundation, Valerii Kliuchok, shared his views on the government corruption scandal in Ukraine. He believes that the issue of anti-corruption measures is a challenge not only for leadership but for all of society, affecting Ukraine’s image domestically and internationally.
Kliuchok noted that the authorities will act according to their own vision, and voters will assess their effectiveness in upcoming elections. He emphasized that the current government is a single political team, and the reputational crisis affects all members, including President Zelensky. He also criticized the leadership’s response, arguing that public support for investigations may not be enough to satisfy society.
The conversation touched on the role of anti-corruption agencies, including NABU, and the long timeframe for investigating schemes in the energy sector. Kliuchok stressed that such occurrences are unacceptable, especially during wartime, when the country needs to maximize its defense efforts.
The expert suggested that the scandal could negatively affect support from Western partners and impact internal stability. The opposition’s demand for accountability could lead to political destabilization. Among Kliuchok’s proposed measures were the government’s voluntary resignation and launching reforms, especially in the energy sector and law enforcement, to ease tensions.
He pointed out that the current situation poses a challenge to Ukraine’s political and economic security, with society expecting decisive and transparent actions from its leaders. Kliuchok also highlighted the issue of effective corporate governance in state enterprises as one of the root causes of such scandals.
He concluded that public reaction demonstrates the maturity of Ukrainians and their high expectations from the government, which must show readiness for real change during wartime.
