Political scientist Ihor Reidorovych examined the unfolding political crisis in Ukraine triggered by the large-scale corruption scandal known as 'Mindichgate'. He stressed that this scandal is among the largest in the country’s post-independence history, putting Ukraine's governance system to the test.
According to the expert, the scandal has already provoked a severe management crisis, worsened by weak communication from the authorities. Reidorovych noted that such a response only fuels conspiracy theories and harms Ukraine’s stability.
So far, the corruption scandal has not affected international support for Ukraine, as it does not relate to funds provided by partners. However, in domestic politics, a serious management and looming political crisis is developing. Parliament currently lacks enough votes to pass the budget, and the government’s reputation is eroding due to scandals and possible ministerial resignations.
Reidorovych suggests that the best solution would be the resignation of the entire cabinet and appointing a new technocratic government. This approach would strengthen control, avoid quota-based appointments, and focus the government on tackling critical problems. He also recommends reformatting the parliamentary coalition, as the current majority is essentially non-existent.
The expert emphasizes that creating a technocratic government and a new coalition would help stabilize the situation and benefit the president. For now, authorities are limiting themselves to partial dismissals and awaiting results of investigations. The main test for Ukraine’s political system, according to Reidorovych, will concern developments in the defense sector. If the crisis deepens, the government may need to revisit the scenario of comprehensive political reform to preserve national stability.
