In recent days, Ukrainian drones carried out a massive attack on energy facilities located both in the temporarily occupied territories of Donetsk region and inside the Russian Federation. Explosions were reported near Zuivska TPP, in the city of Torez (Donetsk region), as well as at the Yuzhnaya substation near Shakhtarsk and close to Starobesheve TPP. Additional explosions occurred at energy sites in Russia’s Ryazan region, where local authorities confirmed a fire.
Ukrainian drones also attacked the Shatura power plant in Moscow region—one of Russia’s oldest thermal power stations with a capacity of 1.5 GW, vital for the stability of the central Russian energy system. As a result, parts of Moscow region experienced electricity outages and heating failures in the town where the plant is located.
Russian forces are increasingly deploying mobile fire teams to counter drone attacks, but the country’s vast territory and Ukraine’s changing tactics have limited their effectiveness.
Politically, there are ongoing debates about a so-called peace plan involving Ukraine, European partners, and the United States. Ukraine and the EU have proposed an alternative plan to regain control over key infrastructure, whereas a Russian-proposed plan has met resistance from Ukraine and sparked internal US criticism. A resolution has yet to be found.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian society continues supporting its armed forces through donations for drones and equipment, strengthening the country’s defense capabilities.
