Last night proved difficult for Ukraine as Russia launched a large-scale combined attack on several regions, including port infrastructure in Odesa and the capital Kyiv, using Iskander cruise and ballistic missiles, Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles, and drones. At least six people were killed in Kyiv as a result. Russian drones also entered Moldovan and Romanian airspace. President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that NATO’s perceived inaction encourages Russia to intensify attacks on EU and NATO members.
In response, Ukrainian forces conducted successful counterstrikes against targets in Russia, striking an oil terminal in Novorossiysk and an oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai. There were also reports of a strike on an aviation plant in Taganrog, which destroyed the last remaining Russian A-60 laser-equipped aircraft.
Diplomatic tensions in the United States rose as debates over military support for Ukraine grew sharper. Vice President Jade Vance called for Ukraine’s capitulation, but leading Republicans opposed this, with the majority publicly supporting Ukraine. Reports of President Zelensky’s planned US visit remain unconfirmed as US special representatives hold consultations with Russia regarding a new settlement plan, though the Russian side is avoiding real compromise and seeking delays.
Overall, the situation remains tense. Military analysts observe that despite a deepening economic crisis in Russia, the Kremlin is not inclined to halt hostilities. For Ukraine, the urgent need is for real army reform and continued societal and partner support. Ukrainian armed units have expressed gratitude for received drones, highlighting the importance of continued aid. The author calls for active support for Ukrainian forces and systemic reforms, as the nation's fate is being decided on the battlefield.
