Update on Peace Talks: Possible Zelensky Visit to Trump and Key Discussions in Abu Dhabi

Analytical discussion on Ukraine-Russia peace talks and US role. Covers possible Zelensky-Trump meeting and negotiation prospects.

On November 25, political analysts Valeriy Klychko and Ihor Chylenko discussed the current situation in peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. A particular focus was given to the potential visit of Volodymyr Zelensky to Donald Trump. According to the experts, the deadlines for negotiations have shifted, and the question of such a visit remains open, as the White House has stated there are no concrete plans at this time.

The conversation also addressed meetings between Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Abu Dhabi. Ukraine's delegation is led by Kyrylo Budanov, while the Russian side remains unnamed, taking place through mediation. The main topic is the so-called 19-point plan, for which Russia’s position remains uncertain. Russia has previously declined the European 24-point plan but has not entirely rejected the 19-point initiative and is awaiting a definitive text from the US.

The analysts note a window of opportunity remains in the negotiations, yet progress is slowed by issues regarding territorial questions, security guarantees, and China’s possible role as a guarantor of future agreements. Europe’s stance is also crucial, given its demand for broader security guarantees should the war end.

Other topics include humanitarian policies, the status of the Russian language and ROC in Ukraine, and evolving negotiation conditions. The importance of reciprocal strikes on energy infrastructure and their impact on the war’s course is highlighted.

The experts agree the negotiation process will continue and that reaching final agreements may take months, with ultimate outcomes contingent on military dynamics, political compromises, and the positions of key international players.
