Negotiations to settle the war in Ukraine are ongoing, as confirmed by Russian sources. Ukrainian representative Umerov announced a planned visit by President Zelensky to Donald Trump, possibly in November. He noted that country leaders must finalize agreements based on meetings in Geneva and support from European partners, though the White House stated the visit has not yet been officially considered.
Meanwhile, direct contacts are taking place in Abu Dhabi between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, mediated by US Army Minister Dan Driscoll, whom Trump appointed as special representative for Russia and Ukraine issues. These meetings have not been officially confirmed by the Ukrainian side, while Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov said Russia has received Trump’s plan unofficially and is prepared to discuss its details.
Media reports indicate that Russia has so far rejected the Geneva version of the plan, which comprises 19 points. Despite this, negotiations continue, as Ukraine and the US have reached a common understanding of key conditions, and another round of talks is expected soon. European guarantees and restrictions on Ukraine were removed from the updated plan, making it less attractive for Moscow.
Experts highlight the importance of China's position and the balance among guarantor countries. They note that until Moscow agrees to a compromise, decisive results should not be expected. Possible scenarios include territorial exchanges, which raise concerns in Ukrainian society.
Analysts suggest that the negotiations will be determined by both the military situation and cooperation between the US, Europe, and global players. Further outcomes of the talks and the potential timing of Zelensky’s US visit will depend on upcoming negotiation rounds.
