Political analyst Ihor Reiterovych discusses not only Andriy Yermak's possible resignation as Head of the President’s Office but also the importance of this post in Ukraine’s power structure during Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s presidency. Reiterovych emphasizes that the main function of the Head of the Office is to ensure the effective work of the president, overseeing information, analytical, and organizational support.
According to the expert, Yermak handled these responsibilities efficiently, creating a comfortable environment for the president’s decision-making and shouldering much of the political and public criticism, which would otherwise target Zelenskyy. This role also involves informal channels for decision-making and shielding the president from public negativity.
Reiterovych notes that Yermak’s resignation poses a dilemma for Zelenskyy: whom to appoint next, and whether the position should remain politically prominent or become purely functional. Among the candidates are Deputy Head Pavlo Polisa, with a strong military reputation, and more politically active figures, which could prompt comparisons to Yermak.
The expert warns that appointing a “technical” figure would mean Zelenskyy absorbs most criticism himself, but it could also strengthen his image as a reformer. According to the political scientist, the situation will develop in the coming days, and Zelenskyy’s decision will affect the power structure and the role of the President’s Office in Ukrainian politics.
