Updated Ukrainian Negotiation Delegation: Changes, Scenarios on Crimea, and Impact of Yermak's Dismissal

Interview with Valeriy Klochok about the new Ukrainian negotiation team, possible scenarios regarding Crimea, and consequences of Andriy Yermak's resignation.

President Volodymyr Zelensky has approved an updated composition of Ukraine's negotiation delegation, headed by National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov. Expert Valeriy Klochok notes that the changes are minimal—only Andriy Yermak was removed, while key figures like Kyrylo Budanov remain. The absence of Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha is not seen as an issue due to the experience of the current team.

Umerov has participated in all previous talks, including those in Istanbul, and is regarded as a reliable representative of Zelensky's team. Klochok explains that regardless of the individuals, the delegation strictly follows directives approved at the highest level and cannot deviate from Ukraine's official negotiating positions.

Discussing territorial scenarios, Klochok highlights reports of possible diplomatic concessions concerning Crimea and occupied territories. However, he currently sees little chance for such agreements to pass the US Congress, though discussions are ongoing. He also notes the broader diplomatic maneuvering, indicating that there are still no final decisions about the status of the territories.

The dismissal of Andriy Yermak, who wielded considerable influence, has not resulted in scandals or allegations of corruption, according to Klochok. He suggests Yermak may retain informal influence as an unofficial advisor. Possible candidates to lead the President's Office now include Denys Shmyhal, Mykhailo Fedorov, and Yulia Svyrydenko.

Klochok concludes that the question of power stability remains open, and the role of Parliament in forming a new political configuration is currently limited.
