Zelensky Holds Talks with European Leaders Amid US Pressure on Capitulation and Aid

President Zelensky meets European partners on the war with Russia, facing US calls for capitulation. The standoff continues.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has embarked on a European tour, visiting London, Brussels, and Rome to hold talks with European partners on the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war and possible ways to end the conflict.

Key topics included reported pressure from the United States, which is urging Ukraine to accept capitulation terms, especially regarding territorial concessions. Despite several meetings between US and Russian representatives, Russia has refused to make any compromises. Ukraine, in turn, insists on not giving up its territories and demands real security guarantees.

Zelensky stated there can be no compromise on Ukrainian territory, emphasizing that transferring any part of Ukraine to Russia contradicts the Constitution and is unacceptable for the Ukrainian people.

In addition, Ukraine and its partners discussed financial support options, such as the expected use of frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine, which could bolster its defense and help address the state budget deficit.

Experts note the negotiation process continues mainly without direct contact between Ukrainian and Russian delegations, and is likely to be prolonged. Russia, according to President Putin, seems set to maintain pressure and shows no intention of making concessions, while Ukraine relies on Western backing and its commitment to sovereignty.

The main factor in Ukraine’s negotiating position remains the situation on the front. The key challenges are providing the army with necessary resources, implementing reforms, and mobilizing international support. The Ukrainian military, with the help of international partners—including new drones—continues to defend the country’s territory.

Experts warn of the need for realistic expectations regarding a swift end to the war, emphasizing that a peace settlement is possible only if Russia’s position weakens significantly. For now, talks go on in difficult circumstances, and the outcome depends on Ukrainian resilience and the course of events on the ground.
