Berlin Talks: US Urges Concessions, Ukraine Refuses to Surrender Donbas

A new round of talks ended in Berlin between US and Ukrainian representatives. The US advocates for Donbas concessions—Ukraine declines.

A new round of negotiations between former President Trump's representatives and Ukraine's delegation has concluded in Berlin. The main issue was the fate of Donbas—the US proposed to create a free economic zone under Russian control if Ukrainian troops withdraw. Ukraine firmly rejected any such concessions.

According to media reports, the talks also addressed sanctions: the US may lift restrictions on Belarus, while the EU is tightening them. Ukrainian public opinion is clear—75% are firmly against troop withdrawal from Donbas, and 60% trust President Zelensky to handle the negotiations.

Other topics included security guarantees, organizing elections, and nuclear power plant management. European and Ukrainian plans foresee sanctions against Russia remaining until a stable peace without further threats is established.

The frontline situation remains tense: continued Russian attacks threaten Ukraine's power networks. Discussions over a proposed exchange of old aircraft with Poland stirred debate, while recent attacks on Ukrainians in Poland due to language aggravated bilateral tensions.

The next meeting is expected at 20:00, with the leaders of France, the UK, and US and EU representatives set to participate. The main outcome: Ukraine resists all territorial concessions despite growing external pressure.
