Elections and Possible Scenarios After War Freeze: Expert View on Zelensky and Zaluzhnyi

Discussion of possible election scenarios if the war is frozen, political prospects for Zelensky and Zaluzhnyi, and the potential for a referendum.

Ukraine is currently undergoing intense negotiations regarding its future, including potential refusal of NATO membership in exchange for security guarantees. President Zelensky does not rule out this possibility. There is also active discussion about holding elections, possibly even during martial law, with options such as multiple-day or remote voting being considered.

Experts note that freezing the war could impact both Zelensky's political standing and the format of future elections. Other countries' experiences show leaders can retain power after peace deals, as seen with Pashinyan in Armenia.

Different approaches are under consideration: a ceasefire first followed by elections, or holding elections during martial law. The likelihood of a referendum on key political decisions is met with caution, given the risk it could divide society. Ukrainians are reluctant to assume responsibility for such decisions via a referendum.

Regarding Commander-in-Chief Zaluzhnyi’s participation in elections, experts believe he is likely to run if the war ends. However, for elections held during martial law, opinions remain uncertain. Political analysts highlight Ukraine’s changing dynamics, with final electoral scenarios yet to be determined.
