This weekend, Ukrainian and Russian delegations are expected to arrive in Miami for potential talks with representatives of Donald Trump's team. The US side seeks to persuade the Russian negotiation group to accept conditions drafted in Berlin for ending the war. However, experts consider the chances for direct negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to be low, as the Russian side has repeatedly rejected similar proposals.
One core reason is Russia's unwillingness to compromise on territorial issues. Russian authorities have officially stated they will not recognize Ukraine's sovereignty over occupied territories. Political analysts emphasize that Russia's main goal remains to weaken or destroy Ukrainian statehood.
Experts also note recent border violations by Russian forces, such as the incident with Russian border guards crossing into Estonia. Such actions are seen as testing the limits of NATO and assessing Europe’s readiness to respond more firmly.
Regarding Europe's position, analysts observe a slow but steady move toward greater unity and support for Ukraine, driven particularly by Baltic and Northern EU countries’ initiatives.
As for the US, experts point out that for the Trump administration, containing China remains a top priority while Ukraine and Europe are less central. It remains unclear if Trump's team will uphold the Berlin peace plan during talks with Russia. Nevertheless, ongoing American and European support for Ukraine is seen as essential to its security strategy and could influence future negotiations.
