New Anti-Corruption Scandal in Ukraine’s Parliament: MPs Suspected of Bribery

Another anti-corruption scandal erupts in Ukraine as several MPs are suspected of taking bribes for their votes in the Verkhovna Rada.

Ukraine is witnessing another anti-corruption scandal involving members of its parliament. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office have reported exposing a criminal group made up of Members of Parliament suspected of receiving illegal payments in exchange for parliamentary votes, acting in the interest of third parties.

Officials have not disclosed all the names involved, but media reports suggest that MP Yuriy Koryavchenkov, formerly of the Kvartal 95 studio before becoming an MP, may be implicated.

The scandal has also led to clashes between law enforcement agencies. The State Security Administration allegedly prevented NABU detectives from conducting searches in parliamentary committees, possibly allowing key information to be destroyed.

The author emphasizes that voters bear primary responsibility for electing such MPs, often trusting unfamiliar figures during the 2019 elections. The uncovering of corruption schemes and the active work of anti-corruption bodies is described as a positive factor for the state, highlighting a contrast with authoritarian regimes where such investigations are impossible.

The article concludes that conclusions must be drawn not only by law enforcement, but also by voters, to avoid repeating similar political mistakes in the future.
