An important meeting took place in Paris, gathering European leaders and US representatives to address security guarantees for Ukraine. The event focused on developing a coordinated Western approach to security and cooperation.
Much attention was paid to the possible adoption of a joint declaration signed by European and US partners. While no revolutionary outcomes are expected, experts emphasize the value of such a document for fixing the sides' political positions on security guarantees for Ukraine.
The presence of new key figures in the negotiation process was discussed, particularly Kyrylo Budanov as Head of the Office of the President and the renewed role of Davyd Arakhamia. This signals a move away from monopolization of negotiations and an attempt to introduce checks and balances in international dialogue.
The central idea is to reach a unified position among Western countries—especially the USA, UK, France, Germany, and others—on providing Ukraine with security guarantees. Nevertheless, experts note that most earlier agreements lack legally binding force, so Ukraine seeks to upgrade them to full-fledged international treaties ratified by parliaments.
The Paris meeting marks an important stage in Ukraine's dialogue with the US and a coalition of Western supporters on post-war security guarantees. The outcome hinges on formalizing a joint stance and ensuring participating countries fulfill their commitments.
