Massive Russian Air Strike on Ukraine: New 'Oreshnik' Attacks, Kyiv Targeted, Ukrainian Response

Russia launched a massive airstrike on Ukraine, hitting Kyiv and Lviv region with the new 'Oreshnik' missile. Ukraine responded with strikes on Russian infrastructure.

Overnight, Russian forces conducted another large-scale air assault on Ukraine, with Kyiv as one of the main targets. The attack damaged power infrastructure and residential buildings, leaving at least four dead, including a paramedic who was aiding the wounded when a second strike occurred. In response, Ukrainian security and defense forces struck Russian power infrastructure, notably targeting the cities of Orel and Belgorod, resulting in widespread electricity, heat, and water outages.

Simultaneously, Russia used the new 'Oreshnik' medium-range ballistic missile to strike the Lviv region, damaging a key energy facility. Experts point out that even without a warhead, the missile poses a significant threat due to its kinetic energy.

Analysts say Russia’s aim is to maximize damage to Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure, instill fear, and provoke shortages amid cold weather—a campaign seen as both genocidal and terroristic by many observers. These attacks underscore Russia's intent to destroy Ukrainian statehood.

Ukraine’s retaliatory strikes on Russian energy facilities are intended to make Russia feel the consequences of its actions. Experts emphasize Ukraine’s need to continue fighting, maintain unity, and support its army. International partners, especially Europe and the US, are called upon to increase military and economic support for Ukraine, impose tougher sanctions on Russia, and halt purchases of Russian energy resources.

Multiple Ukrainian military units expressed their gratitude for community support and modern FPV drones, noting their effectiveness in defending Ukrainian territories. Ukrainian leadership underscores that Russia is not prepared for negotiations or a ceasefire—so the key objective remains preserving Ukrainian statehood and supporting the country's defense.
