American journalist and political commentator Tucker Carlson has claimed that the United States is transforming into an empire and preparing for major conflict. According to him, Washington is moving toward global confrontation, mainly with China and North Korea. He emphasizes that these are not isolated signals but a systematic change in US policy, with preparations for multi-front conflicts.
Carlson highlights US geopolitical plans involving Venezuela and Greenland, calling it classic imperial logic aimed at expanding influence and control over strategic regions rather than pursuing diplomacy. Additionally, there has been an announcement of a significant increase in military spending: Donald Trump proposed raising the US defense budget to a record $1.5 trillion in 2027.
Another indicator of this shift, according to Carlson, is the US departure from more than 60 international organizations, including UN agencies. He believes the US is moving away from consensus rules, shifting toward an imperial model where international law is replaced by military power, thus raising the risk of major global conflict.
The discussion also references the 1974 Cyprus conflict between Turkey and Greece, both NATO members, as a precedent for future developments around Greenland. The analysis covers Greenland's status within Denmark, its autonomous ambitions, and the contemporary geopolitical contest among the US, China, Russia, and the European Union in the Arctic region.
Various scenarios are considered, from security guarantees for Europe in exchange for concessions on Greenland, to economic aid for the region and reactions from the EU and US to potential territorial changes. Experts do not rule out escalation but note that the Greenland issue is a symptom of broader change in global politics and balance of power.
